Reading By 3rd Grade

Outcome: By June 2025, Multilingual Learners (PK-3) will increase on meeting the Spring screening benchmark from 26% to 31% as measured by VALLS. 

  • Strategy 1:  Increase efficiency of instructional delivery to ensure all students have daily access to all components of the language arts block as outlined in the new core curriculum.
  • Strategy 2: Improve integrity of implementation of new core curriculum, English Language Development program, and/or intervention programs by using FCPS-adopted resources with fidelity.

Elementary School Math

Outcome: The percentage of students who failed the SOL but showed growth from the previous year's SOL in grades 4-6 as measured on the VDOE SOL growth table will increase from 37% to 42%.

  • Strategy 1: Improve teachers’ implementation of Framework for Engaging & Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.
  • Strategy 2: Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.

Socio-Emotional Learning & Wellness

Outcome: The percentage of students responding favorably in grades 3-5 in the area of self management and responsible decision making will increase from 66% to 71% and in 6th grade from 67% to 72%. 

  • Strategy 1: There is dedicated time during the school day to develop and utilize SEL competencies and mental health protective factors, beyond the required practices (e.g. SEL curriculum).
  • Strategy 2:  MTSS Schoolwide and Site Intervention teams analyze behavior/wellness data bi-monthly to evaluate implementation of Tier 1 SEL/wellness initiatives and identify students in need of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
