Supporting others when they struggle is essential. This is especially true online when our students might be exposed to cyberbullying. We want to instill in our students the ability to not be a bystander when they see something happening. We want them to be an upstander and help other victims.

For older students:

Ask your child if they have ever experienced cyberbullying. People attacked them online, or have they seen someone else targeted? Talk about how they felt about it and how they handled it. Could they have been an upstander and helped the person in need? Did they seek out an adult to talk to about it?

For younger students:

Ask your child if they have ever seen anyone being made fun of and ask them how it made them feel. Talk about ways to help others when they need a friend. Remind them that there are adults in their lives that can help, especially at school.
