One of our fourth-grade teachers created a PBL (Project-Based Learning) around the topic of the Revolutionary War. The question the teacher shared was;

"How can you, as a graphic designer, create a piece of propaganda that will sway public opinion on a main cause of the Revolutionary War."

PBL always starts with an open-ended question that has more than one solution. Students then generate an inventory of what they need to know to solve their questions. Here are some of their need to knows.

  • Why were the colonists fighting with the British?
  • Who were some of the important people and roles?
  • What were the main causes of the revolutionary war?
  • What are some of the important events?
  • What is propaganda?
  • How do you sway opinions?
